COLD PROCESS without Stove or Heat
Cold process soap making can be done without using a stove by carefully selecting oils that remain liquid at room temperature. Here’s a beginner-friendly method you can follow:
### **What You Need**
- **Oils**: Olive oil, sunflower oil, and castor oil (no need to heat)
- **Solid oils (optional, pre-melted if needed)**: Coconut oil, shea butter, or cocoa butter
- **Lye solution**: Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) + distilled water
- **Additives**: Essential oils, dried flowers, colorants (optional)
- **Equipment**: Digital scale, immersion blender, silicone mold, gloves, safety goggles
### **Steps (Without Using Heat)**
1. **Prepare the Lye Solution**
- Put on gloves and safety goggles.
- Weigh **cold distilled water** in a heat-resistant container.
- Slowly add lye (sodium hydroxide) to the water (never the other way around), stirring gently until dissolved. Let it cool to around **30-40°C**.
2. **Mix the Oils**
- Use **room-temperature** oils (olive, sunflower, and castor oil).
- If using solid oils (like coconut oil or shea butter), use pre-melted versions or buy fractionated versions that stay liquid.
3. **Combine Lye and Oils**
- Slowly pour the cooled lye solution into the oils.
- Use an immersion blender in short pulses to mix until **light trace** (when the mixture thickens slightly).
4. **Add Fragrance & Color** (Optional)
- Add essential oils or natural colorants like cocoa powder or clay.
- Mix well.
5. **Pour into Mold**
- Pour the soap batter into a silicone mold.
- Tap to remove air bubbles and cover with a towel.
6. **Curing**
- Let the soap sit for **24-48 hours** to harden.
- Unmold and cut into bars.
- Cure for **4-6 weeks** in a ventilated area before using.
